About this event
The last in a series of special-event dinners showcasing Certified South Carolina ingredients and the 2020-2021 South Carolina Chef Ambassadors, “Dinner in the Pavilion” features Kevin Mitchell, Chef Instructor at Culinary Institute of Charleston. Chef Kevin will serve a menu inspired by the food history of Middleton Place, a tribute in part to the renowned chef and James Beard Award-winning cookbook author Edna Lewis. The dinner will be held in the Pavilion at Middleton Place.
This event doubles as a celebration of the launch of Chef Mitchell’s first book, Taste the State: South Carolina’s Signature Foods, Recipes, and Their Stories, https://uscpress.com/Taste-the-State, co-authored with David S. Shields, and concludes with a book signing by the author. A copy of Taste the State is included in the ticket price.
As a 2020-21 South Carolina Chef Ambassador, Chef Kevin is one of four chefs chosen each year to represent the state. The Chef Ambassador program was established in 2014 to promote South Carolina as a top culinary destination, highlighting the state’s talented chefs, creative recipes, authentic cuisines, locally grown produce and unique products.
The Certified South Carolina program is an exciting cooperative effort among farmers, processors, wholesalers, retailers and the South Carolina Department of Agriculture (SCDA). The Certified SC brand and label help consumers easily identify goods grown, harvested, and raised right here in the Palmetto State. Buying local not only means people enjoy fresher, tastier, and healthier foods at home, it also means they support our state’s farmers and the network of businesses that nurture agriculture in South Carolina.
