    Middleton Place, a National Historic Landmark, is seeking an Office Administrator/Receptionist. This important, full time position requires excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to outstanding customer service.

    The Office Administrator responds to incoming calls from potential visitors and vendors and directs such calls to the appropriate party as needed. Candidates should have previous experience in an office environment and performing such tasks as ordering supplies, recording and processing credit card payments and making use of such basic office systems as printers, copiers and postal meters. Successful candidates will have past experience using software applications such as Word and Excel. The Office Administrator will assist senior managers with miscellaneous projects as requested.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Field all telephone inquiries from prospective visitors, vendors and others. Direct calls to appropriate parties.
    • Execute established office policies and procedures and revise as needed, to include filing systems, reviewing and approving supply requisitions and related tasks.
    • Maintain office efficiency with a thorough knowledge of office systems, e.g. postal meter, printers, telephones, etc. and oversee their maintenance.
    • Collect data records for copiers and postal meter. Replenish office supply inventory.
    • Process payments received.
    • Process outgoing mail and packages.
    • Assist senior management staff with miscellaneous projects as requested.

    Qualities Needed

    • Competence in bookkeeping/accounting

    Knowledge, skills and experience

    • Knowledge of computers and software applications, including Word, Excel and Outlook
    • Previous experience in an office environment related to tasks noted above
    • Associate’s degree or higher preferred

    The Business Office hours are Monday through Friday, 9 am – 5 pm.

    Middleton Place Horticulture Department is looking for a shop maintenance person. Duties may include; keeping shop area clean, cleaning equipment, changing oil in equipment, lite repairs to lawn equipment, power washing equipment, painting equipment, changing tires, keeping up with tools, keeping all equipment ready to be used daily. This entry level, FT position requires a dependable individual with two years or more of working in the field must have valid SC driver’s license and reliable transportation. Good benefits.

    Tell the story of Middleton Place, National Historic Landmark, while driving a team of Belgian horses and provide care and maintenance of a variety of animals in the Living History Plantation Stableyards.

    Key areas of responsibility

    • Lead a horse-driven carriage while telling the story of Middleton Place
    • General care and feeding of horses and other Stableyard animals
    • Cross-train to assist in general barn maintenance
    • Perform other duties as needed including work with horses, water buffalo, sheep, hogs, and more.


    • Experience working in a stable or barn environment or with animals is a plus, but not required. We will train you.
    • Ability to clearly communicate with guests while driving a carriage
    • Strong work ethic
    • Willingness to work as a team
    • Stamina for working outside in changing weather conditions

    Terms of employment

    • FULL-TIME with flexible schedule (weekends required)

    Join the horticulture team at this National Historic Landmark assisting with general garden maintenance, caring for annuals and perennials, watering, weeding and planting. This entry level, full time position with benefits requires a dependable individual with 2 years of experience in the horticulture field. Valid South Carolina driver’s license and reliable transportation required.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS of the Job (listed in order of importance):

    • Detailing and maintaining Gardens
    • Greenhouse and Nursery work


    • Soil conditioning, organic fertilization and amendment
    • Weeding & mulching
    • Light pest and disease control
    • Managing watering and irrigation systems
    • Planting & transplanting (Seasonally)
    • Raking, spraying, fertilizing, watering and pruning
    • Mixing soil
    • Moving containers

    • Stand or bend for long periods of time
