  • GENERAL MANAGER: THE INN AT MIDDLETON PLACE

    The Inn at Middleton Place Description:

    The 55-room Inn at Middleton Place was completed 35 years ago and quickly claimed the highest honor from the American Institute of Architects in 1987.  It sits picturesquely on the edge of a bluff overlooking the Ashley River adjacent to Middleton Place National Historic Landmark and guests have complimentary access to Middleton Place.   An exciting new chapter began two years ago when The Inn was gifted to Middleton Place Foundation and is currently in the final phase of an expansive renovation project.

    The General Manager is responsible for maximizing the financial performance of the Inn by providing the highest possible quality guest service and encouraging a positive work environment for all employees. The General Manager is responsible for all day-to-day operations, providing impactful leadership, quality assurance, driving exceptional guest service,  and fiscal responsibility with a strong working knowledge of financial statements and internal controls. This is a wonderful opportunity to lead a dedicated and talented team of 40 employees in providing a unique guest experience, unlike any in the Southeast.

    The General Manager is part of the Middleton Place Foundation Leadership team and collaborates across all departments to advance the mission of Middleton Place Foundation.  The General Manager also oversees the sales and operations of 21 East Battery Bed and Breakfast in Charleston South Carolina. The position reports directly to the CEO of the Middleton Place Foundation

     

    General Manager Responsibilities Include:

    • Responsible for the day-to-day Inn operations including overseeing guest services, housekeeping, food & beverage liaison, maintenance, landscaping, and sales. Work with department leaders to ensure the Inn standards are met daily across departments.
    • Participate in recruiting, hiring, and the ongoing evaluation of staff.
    • Work with the CEO and other leaders to develop the annual budget and business plan, setting quarterly financial and organizational goals
    • Develop a strong knowledge of the local market and work with the marketing department to develop marketing strategies including social media.
    • Collaborate with sales and revenue management proactively and regularly, actively participating in the sales process.
    • Work with department leaders to ensure Inn standards are met daily for both the department leaders and their staff.
    • Responsible for understanding, troubleshooting, and correcting issues in the PMS, POS, CSM Modules.
    • Serve as a liaison and team leader with Middleton Place Foundation. Effectively communicates to Inn staff all things Middleton. With the assistance and support of the Call Center Manager, work to find resolutions to improve the guest experience.
    • Be present in meetings, or kept up to date, on all vendor relations. Oversee the final phase of the property renovations.

     

    The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

    • A passion for hospitality with operational knowledge of boutique hotels with at least 5 years of hospitality experience. Boutique hotel experience preferred.
    • Strong technology and computer skills
    • Strong knowledge of social media.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong organizational skills.
    • A “roll up your sleeve” management style with the ability to effectively handle problems, including anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving problems.
    • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to encourage, manage and lead a team by example.

  • STABLE HAND

    Provide care and maintenance of a variety of animals in the Stableyards at Middleton Place, National Historic Landmark

    Key areas of responsibility

    • General care and feeding of horses and other Stableyard animals
    • Cross-train to assist in general barn maintenance
    • Perform other duties as needed, including work with horses, water buffalo, sheep, hogs, and more.

    Qualifications

    • Must be at least 18 years of age
    • Experience working in a stable or barn environment or with animals is a plus, but not required. We will train you.
    • Strong work ethic
    • Willingness to work as a team
    • Stamina for working outside in changing weather conditions
    • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

  • MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    As the Marketing and Communications Manager, you will be leading the branding efforts of the organization and providing marketing and communications support to all departments in the organization.  This position provides a platform for a professional who can cover a broad range of marketing and design activities that support the mission of the Middleton Place Foundation, including print, digital, social media, and public relations.  This role requires strong organizational skills, critical thinking, attention to detail, trouble shooting, flexibility, and creativity.

    OVERALL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Develops and implements an organization-wide marketing strategy, which includes strategically aligning digital technologies, social media, and traditional media.
    • Maintains and coordinates the implementation of an annual marketing and communications calendar.
    • Researches and develops marketing partnerships to explore new ideas and events that foster revenues and grows new audiences.
    • Maintains close contact with media outlets and fulfills media requests. Solicits, arranges, and organizes media interviews (print, radio, and TV) for full spectrum events and programs.
    • In collaboration with marketing team, updates, manages, and maintains website and social media accounts.
    • Writes press releases, emails, website content, newsletters, and blog content.
    • Maintains weekly staff newsletter and other internal communications.
    • Collaborates with all departments to develop and market new opportunities to grow the brand and advance the mission of the organization.
    • Ensures the integrity of the Middleton Place Foundation mission and brand is communicated across all platforms.
    • Assists in recruiting and managing marketing interns.

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Journalism or Related Field with at least 2-3 years of experience in marketing/communications.
    • An understanding of marketing platforms both digital and traditional and how they connect to a brand’s overall presence.
    • Ability to think creatively and strategically, meet deadlines and multi-task.
    • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Lightroom, Adobe Acrobat)
    • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook)
    • Basic understanding of Word Press, website CMS, SEO, image resizing, Canva, etc.

     The Marketing and Communications Manager is a full-time position, primarily M-F with some weekends and evenings required.  Annual salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

  • MANAGER OF AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORIC INTERPRETATION

    An integral team member of the Middleton Place Foundation, the Manager of African American Historic Interpretation’s main responsibilities will be overseeing and implementing programs on the historical interpretation of a Low Country rice plantation and assisting the Director of Preservation and Interpretation with revising and strengthening the historic site’s current exhibits, programs and tours to better express and represent inclusive American history.  The manager will also work site-wide developing best practices and conducting training sessions on the interpretation of the difficult topic of slavery.
