The Middleton Equestrian Center provides a quality facility and celebrates horses in all disciplines of leasure and competition. Success is measured by the enthusiastic response from students, boarders and the horses. The Equestrian Center offers a multitude of opportunities for the horse enthusiast. Home of the Middleton Place Hounds, riders may enjoy trails of both wooded and open terrain, plus three riding rings. Trail rides and riding lessons for youth and adults of all skill levels are available. Numerous pastures and 50 stalls serve resident and overnight boarders.
A guided horseback trail ride is an exceptional way to experience the natural beauty of Middleton Place. Travel back in time to Henry Middleton's day by touring the plantation on horseback and explore miles of trails. Riders are treated to an hour tour of the woodlands, riverbank and the rice fields of one of South Carolina's most dramatic landscapes. Alligators, marsh birds, eagles and deer are some of the wildlife that riders often encounter. All experience levels welcome. Protective headgear and riding instruction are provided. For ages 10 and up. Ages 10-18 must be accompanied by an adult. Trail Rides are offered daily at 10 am, 11:30 am, 1 pm and 3 pm. The cost is $45 per person and reservations are required. The Middleton Equestrian Center offers premium facilities combined with support and care by equestrian professionals.
Full Board: $650.00 per month. This includes stabling, pasture turnout once a day (your choice of when), all feed and hay (twice a day), and blanketing (if needed). Additional fees may apply on feed and hay.
Pasture Board: $440.00 per month. This includes pasture turnout in large fields, feeding twice a day, blanketing (if needed) and all horses are checked by staff professionals to ensure their health. Additional fees may apply on feed and hay.
Weekend and overnight boarding is available. Daily and annual riding passes to the stable grounds and numerous riding trails are also offered. Please call or email more information.
Riding instruction is available by appointment with the Equestrian Center's certified trainer Laura Ross. Lessons are conducted in an enclosed arena and are available as group or private sessions. All ability levels are welcome. Riding helmets are provided and are required to participate. Children 7 and up can be accommodated for lessons. The instruction is based on English Hunt Seat equitation standards unless otherwise requested. Pony parties are a great way to celebrate your child's special occasion. Middleton Equestrian Center offers the chance get up close and personal with well mannered and kid friendly ponies. A pony party at the beautiful National Historic Landmark will be unforgettable. Middleton Place Hounds
Middleton Place Hounds was recognized as a member of the MFHA in January 1977. The primary hunt country consists of land in Charleston and Dorchester Counties, containing over 10,000 acres on Middleton Place and Millbrook Plantation. Hunting days are Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday as announced. Middleton Place Hounds is primarily a drag hunt and maintains a kennel of approximately fifty foxhounds, including crossbred and English foxhounds.
