Update from Tracey Todd, President and CEO of the Middleton Place Foundation

Category: Updates

Like you, we are looking forward to the day when we can safely enjoy our favorite places again and spend more time with friends and family outside of our homes. In the meantime, we hope you are safe and well and in good spirits as we all are doing our part to reduce the spread of COVID-19 by staying diligent to the guidelines of the CDC and state and local officials.

As you may have heard in the news, the long-term impacts of the pandemic on historic sites and museums, including Middleton Place Foundation, are unprecedented. Sustainability models are certainly being challenged like never before. Each spring, we normally welcome over 60,000 guests to Middleton Place National Historic Landmark and the Edmondston-Alston House. With the loss of visitation and its resulting revenue during the busiest season, continued travel restrictions, event and group tour cancellations, and the likelihood of a lingering fear of travel, we are enduring financial losses unlike anything we’ve experienced.

How You Can Help

As a friend of the Middleton Place Foundation, your support is more important now than ever. The Bessent-Freeman Family Foundation has generously offered a $25,000 dollar–for–dollar matching grant to help support our mission, so the stories of American History endure. Any gift you can give now will be doubled — and the impact magnified. Make your tax–deductible gift today!

Middleton Place and the Edmondston-Alston House have been through wars, economic downturns and environmental disasters and we will get through this together.  Thank you for your stewardship, and for helping preserve and share the essential stories of American History. Visit middletonplace.org/donate to make your gift online. We know the road to full recovery for the Foundation and other historic sites and museums will be long, but we are prepared to work together to get through this current crisis. We are managing expenses, taking advantage of federal and state relief funds, applying for grants, and continuing the mission of the Foundation through the popular Digital Programming, Plugged In To History.

Please know that our thoughts and prayers are for your safety and health.
