Category: digital content, Plugged In To History

Join in this week as we continue June’s theme of Juneteenth and African American History.

Tuesday – 12 PM (Noon) “Let’s Talk Tuesday”
June 16
Join Carin Bloom and a staff member from Turning Leaf for a conversation about the local, non-profit, Turning Leaf Project. Turning Leaf is a Charleston-based initiative that addresses repeat offenders in the criminal justice system. Middleton Place Foundation is proud to partner with Turning Leaf in their print shop; tune in to hear about this exciting new pursuit!

Thursday – 12 PM (Noon) “Explore More Thursday”
June 18
Join Tracey Todd at the Edmondston-Alston House for a story about the Civil War and enslaved service. Tracey will share the story of Mac, a man enslaved to the Alston family and personal body servant to John Julius Pringle Alston as he served the Confederate Army at Battery Wagner. Hear the stories from Alston family letters, relating Mac’s experiences of being part of the siege of Battery Wagner, in the summer of 1863.
