Middleton Place Foundation Receives Grant from South Carolina Humanities

Category: Foundation, Press Releases

The Middleton Place Foundation has been awarded a grant by South Carolina Humanities in recognition of its work to continue, even in the face of a global pandemic, its work to connect people to the past, inspiring a deeper understanding of ourselves and each other through the interpretation of American history. In expressing her gratitude for the grant, Director of Development Beth Kerrigan stated that “the role of cultural and historic organizations in shaping our future is more important now than ever.”

The Bridge Grant from South Carolina Humanities, which was funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) as part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act economic stabilization plan, was awarded to a total of 99 South Carolina-based cultural institutions, including 8 in Charleston.

The Middleton Place Foundation will use the funds to support general operating expenses and salaries for staff who continue to work tirelessly to maintain the historic gardens and livestock in the stableyards, as well as the researchers and educators who are adapting programming to meet the new realities of living with Covid-19.
