The Farm at Middleton Place is located less than 800 yards from Middleton Place Restaurant and provides a daily selection of fresh produce that coincides with the restaurant’s seasonal menu. Executive Chef Chris Lukic works closely with farm manager Jamie Yurgartis to choose varieties of herbs, vegetables and flowers that help to create a guest experience like no other in the Charleston area.  Produce, honey and grocery items from the farm can also be found at The Middleton Place Garden Market for purchase.

The Farm at Middleton Place uses regenerative practices that go beyond organic. With a working knowledge of historic agricultural methods, such as the use of livestock and plant waste to increase soil fertility, the farm focuses on a full-circle approach to production. Spent hay from our heritage livestock breeds is used to enrich the soil and to cultivate oyster mushrooms that are used in our mushroom toast dish in the restaurant. Once those mushrooms have ended their fruiting period, the hay is used as compost in our vegetable beds. Perennial and annual flowers not only create a beautiful tablescape at the restaurant and events but they also invite pollinators and beneficial insects to the farm, which helps to eliminate the need for harmful pesticides. Crop rotation, cover crops reduced tilling strategies help to create biodiversity in the soil which creates a stronger, healthier, better tasting plant that doesn’t need the assistance of synthetic chemicals.

By combining the tried and true ways of our ancestors with modern practices, we feel that The Farm at Middleton Place’s approach to agriculture is one that will responsibly feed our community for years to come.
