Carolina Gold Rice Programming

Date: September 3, 2018
Time: 10:30 am - 4:00 pm

As South Carolina’s first great agricultural staple, Carolina Gold rice dominated the Low Country’s economy for almost two hundred years, influencing almost every aspect of life in the region from the early 18th century to the early 20th century.  Get “hands-on” and join costumed interpreters as they process the recently harvested Carolina Gold rice by threshing, pounding, and fanning. Learn about the economic and cultural impacts of growing rice in the Low Country.

The Rice Processing program will take place in the Outdoor Education Center in the Plantation Stableyards. The program is included with general admission to Middleton Place and is free for Foundation members.
